Our students are living in a weird society. For some, stepping into school is like stepping back in time. ReadMe is a literacy enhancement tool, designed for Australian school students from upper Primary to lower Secondary.

Specially designed for use on interactive whiteboards, graphics tablets, tablet PCs and personal computers including Macintosh, ReadMe fuses effective pedagogy with technology, creating an engaging learning environment.

What is ReadMe?

ReadMe is a literacy tool that can be effectively used by all teachers. The idea for ReadMe evolved through years of experience, teaching English literacy classes in junior High School.

  • The ReadMe programme provides the same stimulation and challenges students have grown to expect.
  • Bringing together advanced teaching techniques and modern technology, the lessons capture students attention and concentration.
  • ReadMe offers a comprehensive programme of 27 lessons that cover basic grammar skills, poetry analysis and text types.
  • ReadMe suits a wide audience. As the lesson content is drawn from subjects across the curriculum, diversity and

How does it work?

ReadMe is web based and will run in any browser. As such, it can be used across the network or on stand-alone computers.
The lessons are accompanied by 131 Black Line Masters (student handbook), which are fully reproducible, and includes an answer booklet.

  • ReadMe presents important content in a fresh, challenging fashion that is both interesting and engaging.
  • By simplifying and examining the rules of grammar, poetry, language and genres, the lessons clearly explain how the English language works.
  • Many of the interactive tasks are self-correcting, and are accompanied by compelling sound effects.
  • Learning that is fun is learning that is retained, so some lessons conclude with a game. This enjoyable activity serves to consolidate learning.

Software tells a computer what to do and how to do it.  From the ubiquitous Microsoft Office to iphone apps, software permeates every aspect of our business, education and home lives. Software was used to design the computer you are using, manufacture it, and process its sale. Software is running your computer right now. Any program you have open now, your operating system and antivirus is software. Software was used to design and deliver this website and enables you to navigate your way around it. It enables you to search for products you are interested in, contact us with questions, place orders and make payments. 

Educational software is used by teachers for teaching and students for learning. Many companies produce software for different subject areas. Examples of maths software include Mathematica by Wolfram and TI Nspire by Texas Instruments, literature software includes Easiteach by RM, science software includes Yenka by Crocodile Clips and languages software includes The Language Market. Perhaps one of the largest impacts in education has been made by Adobe Software with the release of its design software.

Business software is used to some extent by every employee who comes in contact with a computer. Software is used to run your computer, to protect your computer and to network your computer. Business software includes that used by an individual as well as software used to manage the operations of a firm.  In terms of an individual workspace, Windows 7 is an operating system, Microsoft Office is an office suite, Symantec is an anti-virus – all of these are software.  Company-wide software that an employee may come in contact with includes accounting software, customer relationship software (CRM), enterprise resource planning software (ERP) and human resources software. Individuals use software to plan meetings, create reports and disseminate information. Presentation software enables individuals and companies to present important information to colleagues, customers, suppliers and investors. 

Home software is software used in the home. The most well known software package used in the home is Microsoft Office Home & Student 2010. Software is also used extensively in the home for entertainment whether that be for gaming or on portable entertainment devices such as ipads.  Some of the most well known software used in the home is used by students and includes Inspiration, Adobe Student and Teacher Editions and Photoshop, Autograph by Eastmond Publishing and Fathom by Key Curriculum Press.
