Scientific Enquiry

Scientific enquiry has three fully networkable CDs, one for each year of Key Stage 3. Each CD has twelve topics covering the scientific enquiry objectives set out the Science Framework for that year. Each topic contains activities designed for you to use within one unit of the QCA Scheme of Work. By breaking down scientific enquiry skills teaching down into topics, the CDs provide you with a way to teach scientific enquiry within your normal teaching in small chunks, as suggested by the Science Strategy. All activities are savable. Pupils can choose to print a page at the end of an activity that shows how they coped with it. You can use this to build a record of their learning of skills.

Key Features

  • Enquiry skills teaching is broken down into small topics that follows Science Framework guidance on how to integrate enquiry skills into teaching.
  • Skills sections matched to Framework year descriptors and written for specific QCA Scheme of Work units which helps teachers to match the Framework objectives to the QCA Scheme of Work.
  • At the end of each activity, a printed sheet is generated and pupil's work is savable so teachers can keep a record for each pupil of the quality of the enquiry skills they had on a given day.
  • Interactive activities of varying difficulty are available in each topic to help build on the skills pupils develop.
  • Year six topics are included on the Year 7 CD which aids transition between Key Stage 2 and 3.
